Poetry Workshop for Teens
2:00-4:00PM
Poetry isn’t just: “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” It’s also: “history is what it is. it knows what it did. bad dog. bad blood. bad day to be a boy color.” In this poetry workshop, we’ll learn that poetry doesn’t have to be formal, stiff, and difficult. It can speak to our everyday lives, make us feel, challenge us to act, comfort and encourage us. Poetry is every person’s art, and workshop participants will learn poetry can be accessible, raw, edgy, and fun. And hopefully, through writing and reading others’ work, they’ll discover how they can use poetry to tell their own unique, individual stories.

Poetry as Storytelling
1:00-3:00PM
(Grades 7-12) Most people don’t think of poems as stories, but they are. Poems can entertain, educate, inspire, and move us as well as any novel. And, like stories, poems are meant to be spoken and shared. In this intro to poetry, we’ll read and discuss classic and contemporary poetry, focusing on the storytelling aspects of poetry. We’ll also discover how to tell our own stories in poems, and get some practice writing and sharing our work. No registration required
